How to total a biweekly timesheet
- Fill in start, end and unpaid break for each of the 14 days. Leave days off blank.
- Each week is subtotaled on its own, because overtime is counted per week.
- Add an hourly rate to see gross pay for the whole period.
Worked example
Week 1 is five eight-hour days, 40:00. Week 2 is four eight-hour days and a six-and-a-half-hour Friday, 38:30. Neither week passes 40 hours, so there is no overtime. The period is 78:30, or 78.50 hours, and at $20.00 an hour gross pay is $1,570.00.
Frequently asked questions
Why is overtime counted per week and not per period?
Because 44 hours one week and 36 the next is not the same as 40 and 40. Federal law counts overtime within a single workweek and does not allow hours to be averaged across two or more weeks, so the first pair earns four hours of overtime and the second earns none — on the same eighty hours.
Can I start the period on a day other than Monday?
Yes. The day labels are only labels. Enter the 14 days in the order of your pay period.
How do I print this as a timesheet?
Use Print timesheet. The printed page shows the 14 rows, both subtotals and the total.
Does the Share link keep my hours?
The entries are written into the link after the #. Nothing is stored on a server, so keep the link if you want to come back to it.
What is 78 hours 30 minutes in decimal?
78.50 hours. 30 minutes is 30 ÷ 60 = 0.50.
